Winter Crisis Service

Winter Crisis Service in Presteigne

Knighton Food Bank is starting a Winter Crisis Service for the residents of Presteigne and surrounding villages who find themselves in urgent need of food and toiletries initially for the period December and January. This service may possibly be extended, depending on the number of food parcels issued and any funding achieved to maintain it.

Knighton Food Bank is a community project for Knighton and District Churches Together and provides an emergency resource offering food bags to people suffering hardship as a result of a crisis that has arisen. The economic recession and changes in welfare payments have affected residents of Knighton and East Radnor and for some it can be a struggle to put food on the table. Additionally, in winter some people have to choose between “heating or eating” when they are faced with high fuel costs and often have to miss meals in order to pay the bills. All items of food etc are donated by members of the public. Each food parcel contains enough store cupboard food and essential toiletries to cover for 3 days and, if needed, will include baby food and nappies. In addition, each food parcel contains basic fresh food such as milk, bread, butter, eggs and cheese and when possible, fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Winter Crisis Service for Presteigne will start on Thursday 30th November, from 10 – 11.30am in the foyer of Presteigne Baptist Church, Hereford Street. Individuals and families can be referred to the food bank by social, health and housing agencies, church ministers and community services (see list on right), or they can self refer by contacting the Knighton Food Bank direct (see details below.)
